BJB to Acquire 3 Rural Banks by March

JAKARTA: PT Bank Jawa Barat dan Banten Tbk, owned by the provincial government of West Java and Banten, will complete the acquisition of three rural banks by March as part of its plan to acquire 10 rural banks this year.

PT Bank Jawa Barat dan Banten (BJB) expects that the acquisition will support its loan disbursement target of IDR6 trillion at end of the year, doubling the achievement at end of 2010.

“Those three rural banks are located in Subang, Cianjur and Garut,” said BJB Managing Director Entis Kushendar.

BJB’s plan complies with the recommendation from Bank Indonesia that encourages national banks to coordinate with rural banks in disbursing loans. “So we want to be the parent of some rural banks. We want to have rural banks in each municipality in West Java and Banten,” he said.

Moreover, BJB has sufficient capital to acquire those rural banks, with capital adequacy ratio at 18%.

The bank has prepared IDR50 billion to acquire 10 rural banks in West Java this year, said BJB Corporate Secretary Adang Ahmad Kunandar. Now it has received permit from the central bank to acquire three of the expected 10.

“We’ve already received permit for 3 acquisitions from Bank Indonesia. Those rural banks are BPR Warung Pondang in Cianjur, BPR Garut Kota in Garut, and BPR Jalan Sagak in Subang,” he mentioned.

Adang revealed that the bank has prepared IDR6.9 billion to acquire BPR Jalan Sagak, but he could not remember the allocations for acquiring the other two banks.

BJB has already owned 15% shares in each of those rural banks. After the acquisition, the bank will be the controlling shareholder with at least 51% ownership.

Before completing the acquisition, BJB has asked rural banks in the same area to merge.

The merger is done to complete BJB’s plan in managing only one rural bank in an administrative area.
